Corgarff Day Walk
DHC : Corgarff February 23rd
Seven of us were to team up to tackle the two Graham's on the Cromdale hills but a flurry of snow and high winds on the Saturday alerted Ruth to the Lecht road being closed. It was still closed in the morning so Gordon decided to pull out and Graham left us at Corgarff to check out some Hen Harriers.
The remaining five of Ruth, Steve, Gillie, Jane and Sandy set off from the Corgarff castle car park for a walk up the glen with no objective other than stretching our legs. We had blue skies overhead but the strong wind was bitterly cold at low level and so getting to the top of anything was not going to happen. The snow and winter light revealed the shape and contours of the hills much improving the normal view of this glen.
We followed the Don westwards stopping for elevenses in the lee of a farm building before continuing along the track and then climbing over the shoulder of Cairn Culchavie before dropping down to the path and the shelter of a locked bothy for lunch. We returned to the cars less than four hours after setting off - a short day but good to be out.
